
José Carlos Ribeiro is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Faculty of Sport of the University of Porto. His academic career is strongly linked to the study and promotion of physical activity and health, with a significant contribution to research, teaching, and academic leadership.
He is an active member of the Research Center in Physical Activity, Health, and Leisure and the Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Population Health (ITR), where he collaborates on interdisciplinary projects aimed at advancing knowledge in the field of physical activity, health promotion, and disease prevention.
His commitment to academic governance is reflected in his role as a member of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Sport of the University of Porto. Additionally, he has played a crucial role in shaping educational programs, having served as the Director of the 2nd Cycle (Master’s) Program in Physical Activity and Health between 2011 and 2019, as well as the Director of the Doctoral Program in Physical Activity and Health.
As an educator, he teaches at the Faculty of Sport, with some collaborations with the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences, and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, contributing to the formation of future professionals in sports sciences, public health, and medical fields.
Beyond academia, he has actively participated in several national and international research projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to advance the understanding of the relationship between physical activity and health. His work has had a significant impact on policy development and the implementation of evidence-based strategies for health promotion at both national and global levels.
